On the first weekend of Advent, we were in Sankt Englmar in the Bavarian Forest. We wanted to visit the Christmas market in Maibrunn. During Advent, the Waldwipfelweg is transformed into a sea of lights. We stayed at the Berghotel Maibrunn.
After checking in, we headed straight to the pool, whirlpool, or sauna to relax. At dinner, we helped ourselves to a delicious and varied buffet. We then ended the evening together at the bar.
The breakfast on the next morning was very generous and delicious. Afterwards, some went for a walk in the forest or relaxed in the pool again. In the afternoon, we went to the Christmas market. Unfortunately, it was very foggy. After strolling past stands selling Christmas decorations, wood carvings, candles, and similar items, we fortified ourselves with mulled wine, waffles and crêpes. As it slowly became dark, we walked up the forest tower. Unfortunately, the view wasn’t great because it was still foggy. From the top, we enjoyed the sea of lights below us. When we got back down, it was dark and the lights along the path and the stalls were somehow magical. After warming up with a mulled wine, we had to return to the hotel. A delicious 5-course dinner awaited us there. We ended the evening at the bar again.
Since we didn’t want to drive home right after breakfast on Sunday, we visited the glass village of Weinfurtner. There were great glass items for the home and garden, as well as summer and Christmas decorations.
